Why do I need cardiac rehabilitation? Who qualifies for it?

Cardiac rehabilitation is a lot like physical therapy after heart surgery. It’s a medically supervised wellness program designed to improve your health and help lower your risk of issues in the future.

To qualify for cardiac rehab, you must have experienced one or more of the following events, and have not yet begun medically supervised cardiac rehab after your most recent event:

  • Heart attack
  • Chronic stable angina
  • Coronary artery bypass surgery
  • Coronary angioplasty or stenting procedure
  • Heart or heart-lung transplant
  • Heart valve repair or replacement

What happens during cardiac rehabilitation?

Your treatment plan will be tailored to your unique heart health needs. We will address all cardiovascular disease risk factors and provide you with the resources needed to take control of your health. Key focus areas include:

  • ECG monitored fitness sessions including; cardiovascular conditioning, strength training and flexibility exercises.
  • Exercise regimen planning
  • Nutritional and dietary counseling
  • Meditation, counseling for stress and improving emotional well-being
  • Smoking cessation (if needed)
